What To Do Immediately After a Car Accident

What To Do Immediately After a Car Accident Roadside Safety

The minutes after a crash are chaotic. Having a simple checklist in your head helps you stay safe and handle things properly.

1. Check for injuries

Before anything else, check yourself and your passengers. If anyone is hurt, call 911 right away. Don't move seriously injured people unless there's an immediate danger.

2. Move to safety if possible

If the vehicles are drivable and it's safe, move them out of traffic. If not, turn on hazard lights and get yourself to a safe spot away from moving cars.

3. Call the police

A police report protects you and is often required for insurance. Wait for officers and give an accurate account.

4. Exchange information and document

Trade names, insurance and contact details with the other driver. Take photos of all vehicles, the scene, license plates and any visible damage.

5. Arrange a tow

If your vehicle isn't safe to drive, call a professional towing company. We respond to accident scenes calmly and transport your vehicle to a body shop, your home or storage.
